The Apple store on 767 Fifth Avenue in New York is Apple’s flagship store. If one walks by it would be very easy to miss it altogether. That's because the store is underground. The only thing one can see above ground is a giant glass cube, part of the glass staircase, glass elevator and a big Apple logo. Besides being a very cool design, the underground layout can accommodate a lot more space and people versus a store above ground, while keeping the plaza an open space, so missing in midtown Manhattan these days.
Another unique feature, is it’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I don't think there's minute when there's no customer on the floor. The majority of the customers are tourists or out of towners. Currently the store is being renovated.
From Apple: "We look forward to creating an incredible new Apple Fifth Avenue, where our customers will enjoy new services and experiences in a much larger space. While construction is underway all 800 employees will serve our visitors from around the world at a fully-functional store next door at 767 Fifth Ave, also open 24 hours a day." Can't wait to see what they come up with this time. I hope the glass cube would still be part of the new design.
